This movie was the pure definition of Anxiety! I had to pause the movie on several occasions. The movie was about a summer camp for 12 and 13 year old boys playing water polo. The focus of the show was essentially on bullying and the way kids that age are vicious. The premise of the movie makes sense: one kid has a skin rash and the other make wild assumptions about it being contagious and deadly. Then that fear becomes peer pressure and bullying to the point where another kid becomes afraid that he also caught it. My only gripe is that from the way the movie is shot, it never becomes clear whether or not this skin rash was an actual thing that was transferred from Eli to Ben, or if it was just an allegory for being ostracized from the group. IE: the rash got worse and worse the more they were bullied. Before Ben was severely bullied, he just had acne, and skin that was mildly red, but then he was bullied and the other kids put roaches on him and this is the inflection point where his rash got really bad. Or maybe I’m overthinking this. The ambiguity of what caused the rash can also be seen as the point. It was shot in such a way that we don’t know so to some level, the kids fear of the plague becomes more understandable.
